How to Spot a Real Sp5der Web Print Up Close

Web-graphic prints are one of the hardest things to fake convincingly, because so much of what makes them work is in the fine detail — not the overall shape. If you’re comparing two hoodies side by side, here’s what to actually look at up close.

Line consistency. A well-produced web graphic has clean, even lines throughout — no thickening or thinning as the pattern wraps around seams or curves. On a lower-quality print, the lines often blur or blob slightly at the edges, especially where the graphic crosses a seam.

Ink texture, not just color. Run a finger lightly over the print. A quality screen print has a slightly raised, textured feel that’s consistent across the whole design. If parts of the print feel flat or slick compared to others, that’s usually a sign of mixed print techniques or lower-quality ink.

Placement and proportion. The graphic should sit centered and proportional to the garment — not shifted, cropped awkwardly at a seam, or stretched to fill space it wasn’t designed for. Misalignment is one of the most common giveaways on rushed production runs.

Color saturation after the first wash. This one takes patience, but it’s the most reliable test. A properly cured print holds its saturation through several washes. If the color visibly fades or cracks after one wash cycle, the curing process was rushed.

Stitching around the graphic edges. On pieces where the design incorporates embroidery or fabric patches rather than pure print, check that the stitching is tight and even, without loose threads pulling at the fabric.

None of these checks require special tools — just good lighting and a close look before you buy or right when a piece arrives. For a broader authenticity checklist covering the hoodie as a whole, not just the print, see our Real vs Fake guide.

What to Do If You’re Not Sure

If you’re comparing a piece you already own against a new purchase and something looks off, the most reliable next step isn’t guessing — it’s a direct side-by-side comparison under the same lighting, ideally natural daylight rather than indoor bulbs, which can shift how ink saturation appears.

Photograph both pieces at the same angle and distance. Zoom in on the same section of the print in both photos. Differences that are hard to judge by eye often become obvious once you’re comparing still images at the same scale.

Check the product listing description against what arrived. Print placement, color, and any named collection details should match what was listed. A mismatch here is a more reliable signal than any single visual detail on the print itself.

Why This Matters Beyond Aesthetics

A well-produced print isn’t just about looking sharp on day one — it’s a direct indicator of how the piece will hold up over a year of regular washing and wear. Poor curing shows up as cracking and fading within the first few washes; poor line quality tends to blur further with each wash cycle. Spending thirty seconds checking print quality before you buy, or immediately when a piece arrives, is the single highest-value authenticity check you can do — and it doubles as a durability check, since the same production shortcuts that create a lower-quality print also tend to produce a hoodie that ages poorly overall.
